OSHA Footwear Rule (29 CFR 1910.136)
OSHA’s rule 29 CFR 1910.136 calls for protective footwear where there is a danger of foot injuries from falling or rolling objects or from objects piercing the sole, or an electrical hazard that remains after other protective measures. A separate provision, 1910.132(h)(2), says an employer is not required to pay for non-specialty safety-toe footwear when the employer permits it to be worn off the job site. Rules differ by industry and state; this is general information, not legal advice.
