The Work Boot Buyer’s Checklist
The one-page checklist for reading the tag, checking the toe type and getting the fit right before you order, so you buy the pair that matches the job, not the product photo. Print it, walk any pair down it, and see the gaps before you spend.
What the checklist covers
- The tag, line by line: the standard and its edition year, impact and compression designations, and the optional marks (Mt, PR, EH, slip)
- The toe check: steel, composite, carbon, alloy or soft, confirmed for the exact variant on the listing
- The fit check: width, half sizes, toe-box room and the socks you will actually wear
- The caution line: footbeds, repairs and add-ons can change what the marking applies to, so ask the maker first
The ten checks
- What protection does my employer require?
- Standard and edition year on the label
- Required impact and compression designations verified for the exact edition
- EH stated if I work near live circuits
- Slip mark with a named test
- Puncture plate if nails are underfoot
- Toe type confirmed for this variant
- Waterproof and insulation stated separately
- Width and half sizes offered
- Fit tried with my work socks
